Weekly Update

Hi GCN Family,

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4)

I’ve had that song, Trust in God, stuck in my head since this past Sunday. Anybody else? If a song is stuck in your head, it might as well be one of the psalms! Part of the beauty of gathering together on Sundays is that we collectively remind each other – often through song – that God is trustworthy and He alone is worthy of the full surrender of our lives.

I love the last part of Psalm 34:4 – He delivered me from all my fears. What fears do you have today? I can picture some of those fears: It’s a tragic recent loss, it’s a financial strain, it’s a marriage in trouble, or a season of mental battles. I’ve got good news: God is the One who can deliver you from all your fears. Keep seeking the Lord!

We’re in a series called, Practicing Resurrection. We’re looking at different stories from the book of Acts (by the way, we’re just following the Acts lectionary readings each Sunday. Read along, follow along!). Part of practicing the resurrection of Jesus is daily dependence upon His resurrecting power (which is another way of saying, “The Holy Spirit”). The invitation today: Make space and create time to receive the power, the comfort, the conviction, or the peace of the Holy Spirit – the resurrecting power of Jesus – today.

A few things to note…

Be a part of the GCN Emergency Response Team? Part of caring for one another is being prepared to respond should an emergency occur during a GCN gathering. We would like to know in advance who in our congregation has training in emergency response. If you have emergency response credentials in either: CPR, BLS, first aid, police service, or fire safety and would be willing to respond should an emergency situation arise please send an email to Ron Mahmot (rmahmot@gmail.com) with your name, type of training, and cell number. Thank you!

Summer Ministry Intern, arriving May 12th! GCN has just landed a summer ministry intern. Her name is Amen Etefa. She is a sophomore at Point Loma Nazarene University, but her home is nearby Silver Spring. She has a call to ministry and is especially excited to engage with our local mission efforts. We’re looking forward to being an encouragement to Amen, and to the summer ahead!

Much Love,

Pastor Brian
