"And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
— Matthew 22:39
Our ministry extends outside the walls of our church. We do not expect everyone to come to us; we go to them with the Gospel of Christ. Christ calls us into relationship with Himself and with those around us. This includes helping the poor and needy, in Christ’s name, which is a foundation of the Church of the Nazarene. We believe we are His hands and feet in this world, reaching out and loving our neighbors as we meet their physical as well as spiritual needs.
THE UPCOUNTY HUB
GCN partners with The Upcounty Hub as a food distribution site for families in upper Montgomery County. Every other Tuesday from 2-4pm, we help with food delivery in the parking lot. Visit The Upcounty Hub website for more information. Click here.
RESIDENTIAL LONG-TERM CARE MINISTRY
We have a heart for those who are lonely. Once a month, on the second Sunday afternoons, a team visits a long-term care home in Gaithersburg to conduct a service and build relationships. The team sings hymns, presents a devotional from God’s Word, and prays with residents. This time is a highlight of our week!
SHADY GROVE PREGNANCY CENTER
We support the ministry of the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center with donations of time and baby supplies. Several women volunteer regularly at the center as counselors. We also sponsor an annual “Baby Bottle Campaign” between Mother’s and Father’s Day, when everyone can pick up an empty baby bottle and return it filled with loose change. Visit the SGPC website.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Sports are a great way to enjoy time with one another and reach out to our community. We have several opportunities for you to connect and share your athletic talent (or, like most of us, your lack of talent). Recreation examples at GCN during the school year include basketball open gym on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 pm and volleyball open gym from 7:00-9:00 on Friday evenings. To find out more about sports and recreation opportunities, check our calendar or contact us. To reserve the Life Center for your own sporting event, click here.
STEWARTOWN COMMUNITY
We have adopted a neighborhood close to our church and reach out to the residents with the love of Christ as we build relationships with them. We provide backpacks for children in the Fall and gifts for them at Christmas.
INTERFAITH WORKS WOMEN'S CENTER
The Interfaith Works Women's Center is a transitional shelter for homeless women in Rockville, Maryland. We prepare and serve dinner on the first Friday of every month for approximately 35 women. The residents have become friends and we genuinely look forward to our time with them. They are as much a blessing to us as we hope to be to them.
GAITHERSBURG HELP
We serve families in our community through partnering with Gaithersburg HELP, which provides groceries to those in need. We contribute food, finances, and people who volunteer monthly at the pantry. We also conduct food drives to help keep the pantry well stocked. Contact Gaithersburg HELP.
