"And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

— Matthew 22:39

Our ministry extends outside the walls of our church. We do not expect everyone to come to us; we go to them with the Gospel of Christ. Christ calls us into relationship with Himself and with those around us. This includes helping the poor and needy, in Christ’s name, which is a foundation of the Church of the Nazarene. We believe we are His hands and feet in this world, reaching out and loving our neighbors as we meet their physical as well as spiritual needs.

We have partnered with Nourish Now as a food distribution site for families in the upper Montgomery County area every other Tuesday from 2-4pm in the GCN parking lot.  Contact Nourish Now.

We serve families in our community through partnering with Gaithersburg HELP which provides groceries to those in need. We contribute food, finances, and people who volunteer monthly at the pantry. We also conduct food drives to help keep the pantry well stocked.  Contact Gaithersburg HELP.

We have a heart for those who are lonely. Twice a month, on the second and fourth Sunday afternoons, teams visit two Gaithersburg nursing homes to conduct services and build relationships. The teams sing the old hymns with the residents, speak from God’s Word, and pray with them.  This time is a highlight for the residents and the teams.

We support the ministry of the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center with donations of time and baby supplies. Several of our folks volunteer regularly at the center as counselors. We also sponsor an annual “Baby Bottle Campaign” between Mother’s and Father’s Day, when everyone can pick up an empty baby bottle and return it filled with loose change.  Visit the SGPC website.

Sports are a great way to enjoy time with one another and reach out to our community. We have several opportunities for you to connect and share your athletic talent (or, like most of us, your lack of talent).  Recreation examples at GCN during the school year include basketball open gym on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 pm and a sports LIFE group on Friday evenings. Monday evenings, men’s softball takes place through spring and summer. We also have a big Thanksgiving “Turkey Bowl” football game, volleyball tournaments, and much more. To find out more about sports and recreation opportunities, check our calendar or contact us. To reserve the Life Center for your own sporting event, click here.

We have adopted a neighborhood close to our church and reach out to the residents with the love of Christ as we build relationships with them. We provide backpacks for children in the neighborhood and gifts for them at Christmas. We host a Christmas party and a block party each year and sponsor a bike club. We teach the children about Jesus at Sonshine Club on alternate Fridays throughout the school year.

The Interfaith Works Women's Center is a transitional shelter for homeless women in Rockville, Maryland. We prepare and serve dinner on the first Friday of every month for approximately 35 women. The residents have become friends, and we genuinely look forward to our time with them. They are as much a blessing to us as we hope to be to them.

40 Days for Life mobilizes churches to protect mothers and their unborn babies. During two annual campaigns, GCN volunteers join with others around the country to pray and hold peaceful vigils at abortion clinics. We meet at the late-term abortion clinic in Germantown. Visit the 40 Days for Life website.

Every summer we spend three days serving others! This mission-trip-style event involves two overnight stays with our group serving at the Interfaith Works Women's Shelter and other serving opportunities. We'll have fun outings in the evenings, and then we'll cap the trip off with a beach day at Ocean City! For anyone in 6th grade and older! Next year's Summer Mission Road Trip details to be announced.
