• Living on Purpose

    Feb 1, 2016

Take ten seconds and look around the room right now. What do you see? A lamp, a book, a door, some carpeting, a coffee mug, a gorilla (if you see a gorilla, call 911!)? Here’s the thing — everything you see has a purpose! Everything. The coffee mug holds coffee, and the coffee wakes you up in the morning! The lamp helps you see what you’re doing. The door keeps people out or you in. OK, you get the point.

  • Kick Worry out the Back Door

    Pastor Ben

    Jan 18, 2016

Well, the young pastor at GCN preached an outstanding message yesterday from what I consider one of the most beautiful passages from the Gospels, Matthew 6:25-34. “Do not worry,” Jesus says. And He reminds us of the reason — because we have a Father in heaven that takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies in the field. • The Afterglow of Sunday

    Pastor Ben Spitler

    Jan 11, 2016

I woke up this morning, and as is my habit, I endeavor to set my mind on God and seek His help and give Him thanks before even rolling out of bed. My mind went immediately to the good message I heard yesterday from Kelly, taken from Jesus’ invitation in the Matthew 11:28-30 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” As a result of hearing that message, I woke up Monday morning resolved anew to share the day with Him, to work together with the Savior in living this day to the glory of God, to share the burdens that I so often take on myself without seeking His help. I rolled out of bed knowing that He was with me and that nothing that came my way today was beyond His capabilities.

  • Knee High on the Fourth of July

    Pastor Ben Spitler

    Jan 4, 2016

This is a crazy thing to be thinking about on a day when the high is going to be like 34, but I’m thinking about the Fourth of July! Farmers like to say that the corn should be “knee high by the Fourth of July.” What do you think farmers would be saying if it was still knee high on the Fourth of October?  Or have any of you parents tracked your kids’ height on a wall or door frame with a little pencil mark — age 8, 4’10”, etc.?  What if they were still 4’10” when you measured them at 18?  Or what if that savings bond you purchased and tucked away 30 years ago hadn’t made a cent 30 years later?
