First of all, thank you for the gifts presented on Sunday to Kelly and me in honor of 30 years with you! You are very good at keeping things a secret, and it truly was a surprise. Thanks for the gift of time away at a favorite B&B and for the money, the Sweet Frog gift cards, the flowers, and the kind words. Thanks most of all to the many of you who serve the Lord Jesus in His church and out in the community — that’s the best gift of all for a couple of pastors!

I’m writing this on the 4th and hope you all had a good Independence Day!  We not only celebrate our independence from British rule (nothing personal against Peter or any other Brits in the congregation!) gained in the Revolutionary War 240 years ago, but also the freedoms we’ve enjoyed as a democratic republic.  July 4th weekend is also a reminder to me of our freedom in Christ!

  • Overcoming Evil

When we hear the word “evil,” we generally think of heinous crimes and horrendous things that happen in the world.  But “evil” in the Scriptures describe anything that falls short of the “good, pleasing and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).  It certainly includes things like what happened in Orlando just a week ago but also many other less blatantly evil things along the way.
