The Comeback Church

While there are many churches that are alive and well - including our own - and while there are many hopeful positive signs of renewal and strong faith, there is a hunger for more and a need to return to God in these days.  Christ Jesus said He would “build His church” (Matthew 16:18). He is and He will.  He builds His church on people of faith who believe He is the Son of God come into the world to save it.  You and I want to be people on whom He can build, amen?!  Let’s pray for a mighty movement of God in these days that brings His church in this country back to her first love, back to a joyful commitment to the life and ministry and mission of God.
I said on Sunday that I believe it’s our responsibility to encourage folks we know and love back to His church—our children, grandchildren, family members, friends and neighbors.  A reading of Hebrews 10:25 would support that— "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching."  Not only should we be a part of His church ourselves, we should encourage others to do the same.  Yesterday I told you about a neighbor I had on my heart in that regard.  Doggone if God didn’t give me an opportunity to speak to her on Sunday within 10 minutes of praying about that.  And the conversation went very well!
If you read the verses before Hebrews 10:25, you’ll see that in terms of a comeback our first move is toward God— "Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith."  Being a part of His church will follow being in a genuine relationship with God; our faith in Christ will lead us to His church. The two are inseparable.
I shared a touching story about a British man named Nicholas Winton who, during the Holocaust, saved the lives of 669 Jewish people (mostly children) by securing their safe passage from Czechoslovakia to the UK.  In 1988 Nicholas was invited to be in the audience of a British show called That’s Life!  Little did he know that he would meet dozens of those whose lives he saved.  Here’s the link to that video   It was a reminder to me that the only reason I’m alive and here today, redeemed and forgiven, is because of what Christ did for me.  It’s His church.  I’m glad to be a part of it.  Hope to see you gathered with His church this Sunday.  Have a great day and may you experience the grace and love of God at every turn!
