Let Your Light Shine

In Matthew 5:16 Jesus says, IN THE SAME WAY, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE OTHERS, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD DEEDS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. Notice that Jesus doesn't say, "shine your light." He says, "let it shine." Earlier Jesus notes that we don't light a lamp then put something over it. That would be silly! You light a lamp then let it shine, let it do what it was lit for :) When Jesus comes into our life, when we decide to follow Him, when we're in Christ, Christ, the Light of the world, is in us! Let Him shine through you! Here's the way God seemed to be speaking to me through Jesus' words'--quite often I'll have an opportunity to do something good or to share the good news of Jesus. When I take advantage of those opportunities I'm "letting my light shine." When I don't, I might very well be putting a basket over a Light that's already in me and lit. Sometimes I make opportunities, I'm proactive in the things I do. But often, in the providence and work of God in the world, the opportunities just come my way. I'll bet that happens for all of us today! Be ready to "let Him shine!"
