Pastor Ben Spitler
We’ve had two of our GCN friends pass away in the last week. There are family members and friends grieving their loss today, as they should. No matter how long someone we love lives it never quite seems long enough and it’s always hard to let go. But for those of us who believe, the grieving is different. The apostle Paul’s words in I Thessalonians 4 came to mind this morning—13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. This is the time of year when we especially remember the hope we have in Christ because of His death and resurrection. We will do our share of grieving in this life. There are many things that will make us sad. But for those of us who believe the final word is HOPE and the certainty that in raising Christ from the dead, God has made a way for all of us to be more than conquerors through Him who loves us! That includes death itself. Praise be to His name. A good reason to thank God on this Friday! More Good News this coming Sunday as we begin a preaching series titled, “The Gospel.” God bless!
