Come In Out of the Wind

Here they are for your encouragement—

“The real problem of the Christian life comes where people do not usually look for it.  It comes the very moment you wake up each morning.  All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals.  And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other Voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter Life come flowing in.  And so on, all day.  Standing back from all your natural fussings and frettings; coming in out of the wind.”  (C.S. Lewis in Daily Readings)

“The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”  (Jesus in John 3:8)

The Lewis quote offers us encouragement to turn our attention to God in the very first waking moments of each day, then acknowledging Him in all our ways as that day unfolds.  We’ll find our day will go much better and we’ll find God helping us live about those “fussings and frettings.”  The words of Jesus may remind us that the ways of God are mysterious, “His paths beyond tracing out” (Romans 11:33), but the Spirit is at work and we will see His affect.  We are praying for the work of His Spirit among His people these days!  Perhaps when you hear the wind blow today the Lord will bring these things to mind.
