Building Plans

After years of planning and prayer, GCN is expanding our facilities. Our plan is to expand the size of our building so we can extend the reach of our ministry. We have prepared a downloadable brochure (.pdf file) that provides details about the plans and how you may help.

Following are illustrations of the new building design:

In addition, you may view the new construction design concept through the following files:

Construction Updates

Update on February 1, 2012

Demolition of the old MPR and offices has been nearly completed. Work was completed on framing the stage and some new doorways. Drainage systems were installed over the scupper to allow installation of downspouts.

Update on January 29, 2012

Over the past couple of days, demolition of the old offices and multipurpose room has been nearly completed. All exterior doors have been installed. The roof has been nearly completed, with just some shingles over part of the addition remaining. Some additional constructions items were delivered.

Update on January 27, 2012

Over the past week, we have made significant progress in completing the outer part of the new building. Shingles were installed to completed part of the new roof. Plywood sheathing was installed over the entire new addition, and shingles prepared to be installed. The roof should be completed within the next week. New outer doors were installed on the new front entrance and on the entrance to the kitchen area. This week, the old multiple room and kitchen were closed off, and demolition of the old office space was started.

Update on January 15, 2012

This week has been very productive with the roof arches being completed and the I-joists installed. Most fascia boards have been installed and about 70% of the sheathing installed on 1/2 of the roof. We are fortunate to have had fairly good weather and an excellent crew to do the work in Blue Mountain builders. The masons have finished power washing the block work and cleaning up their area. The electrician has continued to run the wiring in new section. Roof shingles were delivered Thursday and should be installed this week along with rubber roof which will seal us to the weather. The store front doors are to be installed Tuesday; we expect the steel doors to be delivered soon and installed so we can lock up new building and begin with the remodeling.

Update on January 7, 2012

The wood timbers and trusses have been installed to provide support for the roof over the new multi-purpose room. The roof over the new lobby is near completion. Electrical wiring has been run in preparation for lighting and fixtures in the new lobby area. Our building contingency funds have been depleted due to increased commodity costs and mandated changes to our utility plans. Please consider a donation to the building fund.

Update on December 31, 2011

The masonry work has been completed and now we can see the peaks have taken shape. The wood timbers have been delivered and the carpenters have started their job of setting the wood structural pieces. The water line is complete and ready to be connected to the Church water pipes; we are waiting for some biological tests to be returned so we know the new piping will be safe and free from biological contamination. Work in the public right of way is complete and we are now preparing the final, as-built documents to close out the project. Our building contingency funds have been depleted due to increased commodity costs and mandated changes to our utility plans. Consider a donation to the building fund.

Update on October 22, 2011

After some delays from rain, to obtain permits, and to complete inspections of the underground plumbing, the trenches that were dug for the underground pipes were backfilled. The ground was leveled, covered with plastic sheeting, steel wire, and rebar in preparation of pouring the new concrete foundation. The constuction crew prepared the steps that will evenutally lead down into the new kitchen. In addition, some drainage problems were fixed around the front and side of the building. Water main pipes are stacked in the parking lot near the church offices in preparation for the completion of the connection of the building to the main city water lines.

Update on October 1, 2011

Concrete was poured in what will be the new lobby and main entrance of the building. Heavy equipment was brought out for the installation of new water pipes. Significant progress was made in the installation of underground water pipes, which will hook up the building to city water rather than well water. A new fire hydrant was installed near the front entrance.

Update on September 29, 2011

While God continues to bless his creation with life giving rain, it has hampered our effort in construction of the building program this week. However, we were able to accomplish all underground plumbing lines and are ready for inspection. We had the exterior of the foundation wall waterproofed and started backfilling around exterior. Pleasants Construction raised the entry area ready for concrete, and the front area was treated for termites. Pleasants also saw cut areas in parking lot driveway in preparation for starting the on site water install this week, which will cause Warfield entrance to be unusable through out the week. Bill Ballentine continued to pump away water from the construction site and no water seemed to enter building.

Update on September 21, 2011

Lots of rain over the past week has slowed some of the construction plans and delayed opening the front entrance. Work continues on the masonry. Installation of electrical conduits and plumbing began this week.

Update on September 8, 2011

The rainy weather this week is trying the patience of our masonry and concrete contractors as they attempt to complete the temporary main entrance to the Church. Unfortunately we have had to ask your patience for another week while we wait for the rain to end and the ground to dry. This week, the main entrance will be closed again. We are still making progress in other areas. Production has started on the large laminated wood arches that will support the roof of the new activity center, they will begin arriving to the site in a few weeks when, hopefully, the masonry walls will be up to grow around them. The ductile iron pipe for the water supply line is also ordered and delivery to the site expected in a week or so. The upper parking lot is complete. Once again many thanks to the volunteers who spent an evening marking out the spaces. We will be needing these spaces; we likely will be losing a few more near the new building area as more and more quantities of building materials arrive. Finally, thanks for your cooperation during these critical weeks when we are very much dependent on the weather to allow us to complete the concrete and masonry work. If you have concerns or questions, direct them to Rich DiMambro.

Update on August 31, 2011

The construction survived the rain from Hurricane Irene. The storm water system worked properly and filled up the overflow pond. The concrete footings for the foundation of the new building addition have been completed on the north side of the building. Construction on the foundation on the front side of the building began today. As a result the main entrance to the building is temporarily closed. A crew of GCN men came out tonight and painted lines on the new upper parking lot adding about 60 new parking spaces.

Update on August 27, 2011

The upper parking lot is now open for use. Finishing work (curbs, painting lines, etc.) is planned for the parking lots over the next week. Concrete footings with steel rebar were prepared as part of the foundation for the new addition to be built on the north side of the building (adjacent to the current multipurpose room.)

Update on August 20, 2011

Work on the storm water management system has been almost completed. The foundation of the upper parking lot was completed, and on Saturday, Pleasants Construction paved the parking lot.

Update on August 6, 2011

The upper parking lot was staked out, cut and rolled, and trees removed. We started and finished burying the 321 feet of 66 inch diameter sediment control pipes under the parking lot. Underground conduits were put under the upper parking lot. On Saturday, we removed a mountain of dirt! We also buried many feet of underground concrete pipe for the storm sewer management. The area around the front of the building has been graded in preparation for laying the foundation of the new addition. This upcoming week, we plan to finish the underground storm water pipes, and start laying asphalt in the upper parking lot.

Update on July 30, 2011

Construction continues on the storm water management system. Additional work has been completed in preparation of the new upper parking lot. Also this week, the staff offices were moved from the main building to the trailer near the Warfield road entrance.

Update on July 18, 2011

With the approval of our building permit and authorization to construct our water supply line extension construction around the GCN campus will be in high gear for most of the summer. As soon as the new storm water ponds and the parking lot are complete, the construction team will begin excavating the building foundations. We can expect our contractor to have the new parking lot ready within the next 2 to 3 weeks or so; we need to be patient and flexible while we deal with a loss of one entrance and about a third of the old parking lot, but it's exciting to see the changes and feel the building is now shifting to high gear for the summer on our new addition. Our project will be overseen by a site superintendent, Bill Ballentine. Please welcome Bill, and his wife, Kay, to GCN, as they will be worshipping with us while here. If you have any issues with the building please bring them to the attention of Rich DiMambro.

Update on July 16, 2011

Construction on the storm water management system continues. This construction includes significant digging for the burial of large drainage pipes and systems. Additionally, the ground in front of the building is being prepared for the expansion of the new construction.

Update on July 10, 2011

The heavy construction equipment has moved in. Construction on the new parking lot, storm water management system, and related infrastructure will begin shortly. A trailer is set up in the parking lot as the main office for the construction team. Shortly, the offices for the church staff, including administrative and pastoral staff will move out of the main building to the trailers adjacent to the main building. The church staff offices will remain here through the duration of the construction.

Update on June 13, 2010

The New Building Team met with Jim Hinze from Zion Builders and confirmed that, in fact, the process of being approved for city water connection will take 9-11 months and, it appears, is prerequisite for obtaining a building permit. Up to this point we were working under the assumption that those two processes could run parallel to each other. The net result appears to be a delay in construction.

Our reaction to that was obviously disappointment. However, it may very well be that the delay will work in our favor financially as we deal with some increased costs and a fluctuating interest rate. So, we are "waiting patiently" on the Lord and ask that everyone continue to pray for God’s guidance and help. We continue to move forward in the building permit approval process, continue to work through the public water connect approval process and will pursue the rights of way necessary for that connection.

In the meantime, the ministry and mission and life of GCN continue! Giving is strong and God is doing some great things in and through the lives of His people. So we are encouraged! Thanks to Rich DiMambro and his new building team for their ongoing work. Thanks to Dave Beall and his finance team for their ongoing work. Let’s continue to pray and gather and give and be about the things that God wants us to be about! Thanks!
